The IELTS test, which is derived from the initials of the International English Language Testing System, is one of the most prestigious and popular English language tests that aims to assess the level of English language skills of people who intend to live, work or study in a place where English is used to communicate. Used.

A little history and statistics
The IELTS test was introduced in 1980 by the Cambridge Assessment Institute for English Language Assessment, and the British Council. In 1989, IDP Australia joined the test designers and organizers, ensuring that the test was international. Today, the IELTS Center in Australia, along with two other institutions, administers the test. The name of this test was written in the form of ELTS before joining the IDP, but then with the addition of the word International, the IELTS test was written in the form of IELTS, which is known by this name today.

Holding more than one million tests a year for the first time made it the most popular English language test for study and immigration purposes in the world. The growing number of participants in this test continued so much that in 2017, more than three million tests were held in more than 140 countries.

Types of IELTS tests
The IELTS test has two main models: Academic and General

Two other titles were later added to the test: IELTS Life Skills and UKVI

Which we will discuss briefly in each of them.

IELTS Academic - IELTS Academic
This test, as its name implies, is suitable for people whose goal is academic education at the undergraduate level. This degree is available at universities in English-speaking countries or universities in non-English-speaking countries that have an international English-language department.

In this test, four main skills, namely Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing, and Writing are evaluated separately.

The test is conducted in such a way that listening, reading and comprehension and writing skills (Listening, Reading and Writing) are held in one session (in the same way as you see in the text), in about two hours and forty-five minutes. And Speaking skills separately. The Speaking Test can be on the same day as the main test, up to one week before or up to one week after.

This test has no concept called rejection or acceptance, and everyone will get a score between 1 and 9 13 days after the test, based on the level of English language proficiency they provide in the test, which is the average score of all four skills. What makes students aim for a grade is the minimum grade that the university or institution of their choice mentions in the documents required for admission. (In most cases, this number is 6 or 6.5.)

IELTS General
This type of IELTS test is suitable for people who intend to work or live in an English-speaking country.

The performance and scoring of the general test is generally similar to that of IELTS Academic. The duration of the exam and the order of the speech section and other sections are similar to the academic exam. Slight differences have been made in this test to suit people who do not deal with academic information and therefore need a simpler test. These differences, in addition to a slight difference in how the score is calculated, are evident in the structure of Reading and comprehension skills of Reading and one in the first part of Writing skills, which we will examine in detail in the following.
